The first aircraft of the new initiative took off for Munich at 7 a.m. today.

The premiere was a success: today, Monday, saw the launch of the first flights for skyhub PAD GmbH & Co. KG, which was founded in March 2025. From now on, this initiative by entrepreneurs and private individuals, which is unique in Germany, will offer up to three daily connections from Paderborn/Lippstadt to Munich and back (Monday to Friday and Sundays). This means that the central scheduled connection from OWL Airport to the Lufthansa hub in Munich, which is also of great importance for small and medium-sized businesses in the region, will remain at the local airport.

“The founding and development of skyhub PAD was a tremendous feat of strength and an outstanding team effort. We are very pleased with the great support from our shareholders and are proud of the result we have achieved. The framework conditions are in place. Now it is important that passengers book flights as they did in the days of Lufthansa. Every booking secures the connection to and from Munich,” emphasises Christoph Plass, Chairman of the Advisory Board of skyhub PAD GmbH & Co. KG and Vice-President of the East Westphalia Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Bielefeld.

The initiative to continue the route connection at Paderborn/Lippstadt Airport took concrete shape in March 2025. At that time, 36 entrepreneurs and private individuals founded skyhub PAD GmbH & Co. KG, which now has 59 shareholders and will accept further interested parties. The initiative was launched by Dr Carsten Linnemann, Member of the German Bundestag, and Christoph Rüther, District Administrator and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Paderborn/Lippstadt GmbH.

In April 2025, the contract was signed with the operating airline DAT, and one month later the flight times were finalised. From Paderborn/Lippstadt, flights now depart at 7:00 a.m. (arrival: 8:25 a.m.), 1:55 p.m. (arrival: 3:20 p.m.) and 6:30 p.m. (7:55 p.m.) . These flight times ensure optimal connectivity in Munich to many connecting flights around the world, especially to the USA and Asia. In the opposite direction, flights depart at 9:00 a.m. (arrival: 10:30 a.m.), 4:10 p.m. (arrival: 5:35 p.m.) and 8:35 p.m. (arrival: 10:00 p.m.).

As Lufthansa no longer operates the route itself, interested parties can only book connecting flights via Munich to other destinations through Lufthansa. Direct flights to Munich can be booked at www.skyhub-pad.de or www.dat.dk. Those who want to make it easy for themselves can use the well-known flight booking portals on the Internet or book through travel agencies. The interline agreement between DAT and Lufthansa ensures that baggage is conveniently checked through for connecting flights via the Munich hub.

DAT operates flights between Paderborn/Lippstadt and Munich with an ATR72-600, which offers 70 comfortable seats. “This is a particularly quiet and efficient turboprop aircraft that has been specially developed for shorter routes. Thanks to state-of-the-art technology, these aircraft are more climate-friendly than conventional jets. If we achieve the high utilisation rate we are aiming for, the environmental balance sheet will be very impressive,” emphasises Klaus Marx, Managing Director of skyhub PAD GmbH & Co. KG. Flight prices start at £149 including taxes and fees for a one-way ticket.
